Στο βάθρο του ανδριάντος αναγράφονταν εν συντομία οι λόγοι απονομής της τιμής, όπως ήταν η επίτευξη ενός σπουδαίου κατορθώματος ή οι ευεργεσίες υπέρ της πόλεως ή ακόμα και η άρτια εκτέλεση των καθηκόντων που είχαν ανατεθεί στον τιμώμενο.
