Στην αρχαία Αθήνα η διαδικασία χωριζόταν σε δύο μέρη, στους λογαριασμούς (λόγους), που αφορούν το χειρισμό δημόσιου χρήματος και διενεργούνταν από την επιτροπή των δέκα λογιστών, και την εύθυνα, με την οποία δινόταν η ευκαιρία να εκφραστούν από οποιοδήποτε πολίτη ενστάσεις για τις ενέργειες ενός αξιωματούχου κατά τη θητεία του, υπό την εποπτεία της επιτροπής των δέκα εύθυνων οι οποίοι ήταν διορισμένοι από τη Βουλή. Αυτοί οι αξιωματούχοι μπορούσαν να απορρίψουν τις κατηγορίες ή να παραπέμψουν την υπόθεση στα δικαστήρια. Παρόμοιες λογιστικές διαδικασίες επιβεβαιώνονται επιγραφικά και σε άλλα ελληνικά κράτη, ολιγαρχικά και δημοκρατικά."@el, "Euthyna was the examination of accounts which every public official underwent on the expiry of his office. In ancient Athens the examination consisted of two parts; the logos (account) concerned the handling of public money by the official and was the responsibility of a board of ten logistai (accountants); the euthynai proper was the process whereby any citizen could raise an objection as to the official's conduct in office, and was the responsibility of a board of ten euthynoi appointed by the council. These officials could dismiss the accusations or pass them on to the courts. Comparable accounting procedures are attested epigraphically in many other Greek states, oligarchic as well as democratic."@en ;
