Ethiopian Orthodox Christians trace their Church in the time of Christ's apostles, who preached in Ethiopia. In the 4th century Christianity was proclaimed state religion of the Ethiopian Kingdom of Aksum and the Church of Ethiopia was incorporated in the Egyptian Church with Frumentius from Syria as its bishop. Liturgical language of the Church is the ancient Ethiopian Ge'ez.
