BROADER CONCEPT

SCOPE NOTE

  • Phenomena of water overflow over dry land that can have disastrous effects on living beings and human establishments in the affected areas. Floods are caused by excessive rainfall (especially on saturated ground) and by snow or ice melt, often in combination with geomorphological and hydrological characteristics that prevent water from infiltrating the ground or running off toward the sea.
