SCOPE NOTE
- A literary genre initially intended to be performed, it was one of the three genres of ancient Greek poetry together with epos and lyric poetry. Deriving from Dionysian rituals, during the classical times it evolved into a theatre genre and became an integral part of the institutional structure of Athenian democracy. It comprised three genres: tragedy, comedy and satyr play. Their performances were presented during the drama festivals.
