SCOPE NOTE
- Temporary but widespread severe outbreaks of an infectious disease which affect a large part of a population and may result in sudden spikes of mortality, economic drawback, demographic change and social upheaval. Epidemics are due to diverse factors (ecological, genetic, social, etc.) and vary according to their extent and ferocity.
