SCOPE NOTE
- Roman coins that were first introduced around 211 BCE along with the denarii. During the Roman Republic they were small, silver coins valued at one quarter of a denarius. In 23 BCE, in the monetary reform of Augustus, the sestertii were reintroduced as the largest brass denomination. They were worth four assaria and valued still at one quarter of a denarius.
