SCOPE NOTE
- Collective bodies that undertake the administrative and governance functions of a sovereign state. The growth of state and government bodies began in the early modern period and reached a high point with the emergence of the modern state, administrative bureaucracy, and with the expansion of governmentality in an increasingly wider spectrum of social and political life.
