SCOPE NOTE
- Violent tremors of the earth's surface due to the sudden release of energy in the lithosphere, like the collision of tectonic plates. Powerful earthquakes, often combined with other phenomena (e.g. volcanic eruptions), have provoked major catastrophes among living beings and in human establishments and social structures (fire, collapse of buildings, flood, tsunami, landslide etc.).
