SCOPE NOTE
- Ordained member of the Christian Churches who is elected as governor and overseer of an ecclesiastical district and of the respective community of the faithful. The office of the bishop originates in the reorganization of the early Christian Church by Paul, and is considered to continue the tradition of the Apostles (apostolic succession). Bishops have the right to ordain clergy and to convene in order to take decisions on important matters that concern the Church in its entirety.
