BROADER CONCEPT
ENTRY TERMS
- Partial flashback
SCOPE NOTE
- The retrospective narrative analepsis begins in the distant past and moves forward to a point in the recent past; however, it does not bring the action all the way up to the starting point of the main narrative. The narrator leaves a gap to be bridged by an ellipsis between the analeptic exposition and the first or principal narrative.
