BROADER CONCEPT
SCOPE NOTE
- A technique of imprinting inscriptions on vessels, whereby the letters are formed from the same material that the vessel is made of and appear as prints on its surface. During the Roman period a similar practice of fitting letters made of metal to special holes on monumental public inscriptions was adopted.
