BROADER CONCEPT
SCOPE NOTE
- The places where coins are manufactured. In the ancient Graeco-Roman world these were usually permanent facilities built probably only in cities or kingdoms with a steady and voluminous coin production. In other cases mints could be temporary establishments or even itinerant. We know very little about the nature of these buildings, as today only a few of them have been identified. The term is therefore rather loosely used (at least for the ancient world) to indicate the city of production.
