SCOPE NOTE
- Developed in the 19th century, posters are printed designs of images and words on paper, produced in large numbers for the purposes of publicizing their subject through visual display. Their evolution was closely linked to the introduction of lithography. With the advent of colour lithography they reached their apogee as an art form. Most modern posters are produced by photolithographic means.
