ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ

  • Magistrates, selected by lot, in ancient Athens. They acted as caretakers for those imprisoned. Thieves and people enslaving free persons arrested in the act were immediately put to death by them, if they admitted their crime; if they did not, each case was introduced before the court. If the court decided that the defendant had committed the crime he was accused of, the Eleven were responsible for his execution. The Eleven also introduced cases of disputed property before the court before confiscation.
