- Stage directions are narrative deployments comprised in the dramatic text but not spoken by the actors on stage. They imply the presence of the playwright in the stage realisation of the play, as they provide information and directions concerning the action in space and time, the clothing and appearance of the dramatis personae, stage lightning, music, the change of scenes and acts etc.
