- University-level institutions for training managers of state mining monopolies. They were established by the state authorities in central Europe in the 18th century, after the Seven Years War that led to an increased demand for silver. They maintain a significant part in the history of education in applied science and engineering, since their curriculum included mathematics, chemistry, metallurgy, mineralogy and mining techniques.
