ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- A type is a stereotypical fictional person possessing physical, psychological, or moral attributes that are known to the audience in advance and remain constant throughout the play, appearing in several different plays. A type is created whenever individual and original characteristics are sacrificed to generalisation and magnification. The spectator identifies easily the type in question by a psychological trait, a social milieu, or an occupation, usually belonging to a certain genre. Types are found mainly in theatrical forms having a strong tradition in which the recurring stock characters represent the major human types or failings that are critisised by the dramatist.
