ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- Harlequin is the best-known of the zanni or comic servant types in the Italian Commedia dell' arte. He is characterised by his patched costume of multicoloured triangles complemented by a black mask. His role is that of a light-hearted, nimble, and astute servant, the shadow of his master, the matchmaker and mediator of his love stories. He undertakes intrigues on his behalf and always gets into scrapes, while he often acts to thwart his plans, and pursue his own love interest. His contribution to the performance is pivotal, dominating the stage with his jokes, sketches, and acrobatics.
