ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- Magistrates encountered in many ancient Greek states, mainly Ionian. In Athens, there were five for the city and five for Piraeus. Their principal duties were to enforce building regulations, keep the streets and sanctuaries clean and free from obstructions and supervise the hiring prices for certain categories of entertainers. They also had the power to impose fines or bring the perpetrators to trial in an heliastic court under their presidency.
