ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- Christians who follow one of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, which constitute a communion of Patriarchates and autocephalous Churches that acknowledge the Patriarch of Constantinople as primus inter pares. Eastern orthodoxy emphasizes the unbroken continuity since the first Christian communities through apostolic succession, sacred tradition, dogmatic recognition of the seven ecumenical councils, organisation of the clergy, and religious practices. The secession between the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches took place with the schism of 1054. The Eastern Orthodox Christians, who are particularly numerous in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, constitute the second largest Christian community in the world.
