ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- Instruments that determine the local time by means of a shadow cast by a gnomon onto a surface marked in hours. Sundials date back to Antiquity, but became especially popular between the 16th and 19th centuries for checking if mechanical clocks, which were becoming more and more common, were keeping correct time.
