ΔΙΕΥΚΡΙΝΙΣΤΙΚΗ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ
- Cleruchs, during antiquity, were landless citizens, whom Athens deployed in areas of strategic importance. The cleruchs retained their status as Athenian citizens. They continued to pay taxes just like the rest of the citizens and were also recruited as hoplites.
